Safety
The health, safety and wellbeing of the County Regional Network, including our work environments, our people, our clients, subcontractors, suppliers, visitors and wider communities – are paramount to everything we do.
At UGL Regional Linx, we all play a part in creating our One HSE Culture – we do this through our attitudes and behaviours.
Research in our industry sectors has helped identify certain behaviours that are particularly important in creating our desired culture. We have used this knowledge to identify the behaviours that underpin our One HSE Culture.
Focusing on improving our One HSE Culture at UGLRL forms an important step in helping us to achieve our health, safety, environmental and operational objectives.
The behaviours underpinning our One HSE Culture framework are grouped into four broad themes:
- Risk management
- Standards
- Communication
- Involvement
We also emphasise proactive, visible leadership committed to creating and maintaining healthy and safe workplaces.
At UGLRL, this includes the mental and emotional health and wellbeing of our people and those we engage with, as much as it includes safety in design and delivery.
At UGLRL we recognise that the responsibility of rail safety extends beyond rail organisations to educational and community service groups, governments, road user groups and the broader community.
That’s why we are a founding member of the TrackSAFE Foundation; a harm-prevention charity dedicated to reducing near collisions, injuries and fatalities on the rail network resulting from suicide, reckless behaviour and human error.

Established in 2012 by UGL in conjunction with the Australian rail industry, TrackSAFE offers trauma-related support to rail workers and specialises in rail suicide prevention, as well as level crossing and track safety.
The Foundation encourages an environment of ongoing support and encouragement through its major initiative Rail R U OK?Day. The Foundation has partnered with R U OK? to deliver the annual event –Rail R U OK?Day– and is striving towards an industry where everyone cares to ask “are you ok?” each and every day.
TrackSAFE also coordinates the annual community awareness initiative –Rail Safety Week– held in August each year, designed to engage the community in safe rail practices.
